Suitcase Servia Sixth in Season Standings

He may have been dubbed “Suitcase Servia” throughout the course of the season after competing for various teams, but Oriol certainly proved himself yet again in 2007, consistently producing points-paying results no matter what team colors he found himself under.

Yesterday’s season finale in Mexico City was no exception. Though Servia suffered trouble early on as one of three cars that stalled at the start, he wasted no time plucking off his competition one-by-one as he worked his way back through the field. An early pit stop put him on an alternate fuel strategy which really paid off for PKV Racing in the end, allowing Servia the opportunity to battle for second before brining home a third-place finish.

Perhaps another podium will convince team owners that this driver is not one they should let get away so easily. Call him “Super Sub,” call him “Suitcase Servia,” but call him soon because I believe this Spaniard’s nomadic ways have seen their end and a fulltime contract is right around the corner in 2008!

Circuito de Jerez

Champ Car fans, mark your calendars -- the 2008 Champ Car World Series schedule has been released. New in 2008 is a stop in Jerez, Spain at the Circuito Permanente de Jerez which will be especially popular for Spaniard Oriol Servia.

Come June, the series will take to the 2.752-mile, 13-turn permanent road course which has hosted the likes of racing greats Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost and Nigel Mansell. Servia will most certainly be a favorite come that weekend, and perhaps the addition of this new stop will finally secure the talented driver the full-time ride he deserves.

“I came to race in the United States in 1998 and I have not raced back in Spain since. The fans have followed me here all these years and I am excited to be racing in Spain again not just to enjoy myself but to also show the fans the great product that is Champ Car and show them the reason why I left Spain! The Jerez circuit is a great one that offers good passing opportunities, they have a knowledgeable racing crowd and a good weather. It couldn't be better news.” - Oriol Servia
