Super-sub No More!

It’s only a few days into 2008 and already Oriol Servia seems to be doing well with his New Year’s resolutions as it was just announced that Servia will compete for the full season as one of two drivers for PKV Racing, with whom he raced in 2006. While the other seat has not yet been announced, it is rumored that the ride may go to Champ Car Atlantic stand-out Raphael Matos or returning PKV veteran Neel Jani who finished ninth in last season’s championship points standings.

One of the most experienced drivers in the Champ Car field, Servia has repeatedly proven himself as a consistent driver who will not only bring the car home in one piece, but very often on the podium as well. Though he only ran two races with PKV Racing in 2007, he helped the team achieve a provisional pole position at Surfer’s Paradise and finished the season with a third-place podium in Mexico City.

Though PKV’s announcement was one of the first released this “Silly Season,” I’m quite certain that the fact the Champ Car World Series is visiting Jerez, Spain did not hurt the matter one bit.

Servia comments, “I am very excited to have the opportunity to continue with PKV Racing
. I want to thank Mr. Kalkhoven, Jimmy Vasser and Mark Johnson for giving me this opportunity. I know the team and they know me. This will be only the second time in my whole career that I am able to race for a team that I have been with before. The only other time was with Dorricott Racing in 1999 and we won the (Indy Lights) championship. That is why I am so excited to start working and preparing for our goals this season. I feel that the relationship the team and I have established in the past will be very important as we compete for the championship in 2008.”
